The fares are also listed as available only in ALL off peak season not just from January
to March 31..I traveled in April 2003 and 2002 at a fare less than $250 to both Munich and Frankfurt..I also traveled to Frankfurt this year, Dec 5-15
for a base price of $230..The planes were
full in both directions.
I am sure that IF the airline business picks up fares will increase but so will the fares for the seniors under this program. NW had a short sale that covered only a few days to purchase but covered 3 months travel time and the fare BOS-DTW-FRA
FRA-DTW-BOS was only $169 plus taxes, round trip. The sale was at the end of last summer.
Like the original comment was, I believe, "What savings?"
This is the same as the Save 20% with Alamo plus double miles and extra miles if you book now. This is from the partner deals on ual.com.
Compare these prices FROM Alamo thru the UAL website, and thru Alamo.com and Orbitz.
Jan 23 -27 Rental at TPA
Ual.com compact $146. Intermediate $159
these rates are BEFORE TAX AND FEES
Alamo.com with an on-line special:
compact $111 Intermediate $119
these prices are BEFORE TAX AND FEES
ORBITZ compact $ 85.62 Intermediate $94.
Travelocity prices are the same as Orbitz.
after adding the taxes and fees to the UAL.com price for the compact it becomes $181.83 vs the $85.62 on other sites FOR THE SAME CAR.. a difference of $96.21 or more than double the Orbitz/Travelocity price. I thought the airlines owned Orbitz ???
This "deal" may get you double miles but also gets you the miles at double the cost.
This is not to say that only UA partner deals are not all the great things they make you believe they are. This is true for other airline "partners" also.
For most people the extra miles are not worth an extra $96 for a four day car rental.
For someone that doesn't check, and figures the UA deal is a good one and later finds out what the cost COULD HAVE been,I do not think they would be overjoyed at what they found out.
