In my past experience, If bags were the only cargo in the belly of a plane, then the advanced information would be very helpful, but in reality, united and every other airline packs those plane with u.s. mail, cargo from businesses, etc, so this might negate the advanced knowledge.

It just amazes me how check luggage is calculated in the total weight, while carry on luggage is just avg. with the number of passengers.
