How would you interpret "crew rate" in the T&C's?

I was reading the T&C's regarding "eligible rates", section 4B.4

In my opinion it would mean a crew member on duty that is staying at a hotel as an active member of an airline crew and the airline is paying for the room. Would you agree?

I've been receiving points on airline employee discounted rates for as long as I have been a member of SPG.

I am trying to requalify for platinum status and have stayed at an airport Sheraton three times in then past month and have one more room book for next week. I noticed yesterday that I have not gotten credit for any of those stays. I was told by the hotel that the rate was not eligible. I assume they gave me a crew rate? I never said I was a "crew member" I only asked for an airline employee rate. Quite honestly I don't even think I am suppose to be getting my companies negotiated rates for personal use.

Is it unreasonble for me to think that in the seven times I mentioned my SPG number (4 times while reserving the rooms and 3 times verifiying at check in) that I should have been advised that the rate didn't qualify as a stay?

These were personal stays that I paid for on my own credit card and I recieved other platinum benefits (which I never get while on duty).

If I had known that I was not getting credit I would have never stayed at the hotel. It wasn't as though I needed to stay for commuting purposes.

Should I ask for them to work something out with me? Maybe see what the best rate is that would be eligible and if reasonable ask them to allow me to pay the difference?

I feel kind of jipped. The money I spent was so unnecessary. I could have used it to stay at hotels where I know would have given me credit. I'm also running out of time to get my stays in by the end of December.

Just looking for opinions before I talk to the hotel again.

Thx!
