In theory I think you would need more than 120k per every 2nd year as you cannot allow either account to go back to basic or your plan fails..
ground zero: card1 secured gold for 2 years
year1: 60k (card2 from basic to silver)
year2:120k (card2 from silver to gold)
year3:120k (card1 from silver to gold)
year4: 2xgold, no points needed (but likely you'll fly anyway but this year doesn't help you status hunt if you do not fly A LOT...)
year5: 120k (card2 from silver to gold)
year6: 120k (card1 from silver to gold)
year7: 2xgold
year8: 120k
year9: 120k
year10 2xgold
etc...
Personally, I wouldn't even think of such hassle. In the end it's not that far away from the 210k per 24 months and you do not need to worry about 12 month cycles and all your flights will credit towards status, every year, if you stick with one account...
Not really, I calculate like this
y1 card A Gold, card B none fly 60k (or 36 segments)
y2 card A Gold, card B silver fly 120k
y3 card A Silver, card B gold fly 60k
y4 card A Silver, card B gold fly 120k
y5 car A Gold, card B silver fly 60 k
y6 car A Gold, card B silver fly 120k
y3 card A Silver, card B gold fly 60k etc, etc
so basically it's 180k/2 yrs to maintain continious gold status (instead of 210k/2yrs)
The difference is 30k = one r/t to Japan in C, 2,5k euros or so savings.
As for the rules: Roger Wilco, address Mannerheimintie 1 is definitely not the same person as Wilco Roger, address Mannerheimsvägen 1
