I needed to be at JFK for a connecting flight so did not want to do EWR. I even booked BUF-JFK for Cdn$148/pp on Delta, but decided that the flight times were inconvenient, so cancelled and went with the "free" ticket.

$150 per person for taxes from YYC to Kona is amazing. Taxes charged must have to do with the airline as opposed to the distance traveled.
