Until you've experienced F, J or even W, you don't appreciate what you're missing out on, for sure. I'm quite lucky that I'm allowed to book my own travel for work, have pretty much sole use of our OnBusiness account (motto - always look after the little people at work), so even though we have a Y/W travel policy, I've only had one leg in Y and three in W out of 6 round trips this year. Sitting in Y, though, it's no fun staring at the curtain knowing how much more comfortable it is in front.
You're absolutely right, but I think I would have ended up hankering after J eventually. I tend to be like that in life: always wondering if there's something better I'm missing out on. Not always a great character trait but there you go.
For me it all started when I got my first FF card, and started reading about what I'd get once I progressed up the ranks (Lounges? What lounges?). After my first J redemption (an LH LHR-FRA-MNL return), which was also the first time I'd ever been in a lounge, I was pretty much done for.
