Cobblers. If you want to look for (highly dubious) reasons NOT to work then you can always find them. I find it easy to work in Y, even with seat in front reclined my laptop still opens up perfectly OK.
You would get pretty short thrift in my company if you whined about "oh but I cannot possibly work in Y". And laughed at too
Happily, I don't work for your company so won't have to suffer being 'laughed at'.
