If it's an either/or, then those captains that come across as having a personal touch to the F cabin are likely being perceived as an "aloof flight crew that couldn't care less about the guests on board" by those back in the in the economy cabin, no? My preference would probably be a combination of pilot coming out and saying hi to F and doing the flight info announcement over the intercom.
