I agree. I long-distance dated a German girl (Bremen - northern Germany) and she would buy (like all the Germans) crates of water (all in glass bottles, they also to their credit hate plastic bottles). I asked her about it as I filled a glass of water out of her tap, and she said the pollution thing. I think they're raised that way by their folks, who must be referring to a bad time in the 60s or 70s when industrial pollution was rampant.
