I have had the opposite experience - I was called to the podium and asked to give up my prime seat. I had on a cast, initially said 'yes' and immediately retracted when I realised that I needed that seat. The response from the other passenger was outrageous - she shrieked and called me names in the gate area for several minutes because I declined to move. I doubt that anyone else was going to change with her after that display.
Like PTravel, I agree that one should not make ones problems someone else's problems. I choose my flights based on seats which work for me, and have chosen NOT to fly or to disembark if I find myself in a seat which won't work for me. I won't make my issue someone else's issue.
And like Safetymom, I am usually ordered to MOVE, rather than requested to move.
