I've never had a problem getting points when a rate is booked through Marriott.com; maybe MC can tell us if there is a situation where this is not the case. I am not aware of any Marriott.com rate other than a free stay on points that does not earn points. Ritz stays don't earn points, but they are not bookable on Marriott.com .
