throways still okay?
Just looked at some UA flights:

XX-YY-XX priced out ~ $1300
QQ-XX-YY-XX-QQ priced out ~ $250

So, I'm temped to book QQ-XX-YY-XX-QQ and just skip the last segment.

Is United currently cracking down on moves like this, or is it still relatively okay?
