Do you seriously believe that flying 18 inches from another guy is something that some other pilot can just step into?

And for the record, as per that same Discovery Channel special, only #4 can rotate. The pilot who flies #4 is able to fly at 2 or 3, which that year's #4 did in fact do when #3 went down ill. If #1 is grounded, the show cancels. The solos can not fly in each other's spot.
