I'm also jumping into the fire. I just ordered a new macbook pro. At the apple store, I played a bit with aperture...and they had large raw files loaded on their demo machines. It looked very good to me compared to my Dell 6000 with photoshop elements or lightroom. On my Dell, the only software I can use for raw is picasa, because PS Elements and Lightroom were sooooo slow. Until reading this thread, I was planning to go with aperture because of being burned by LR on the Dell. Now I need to reconsider.

On windows, installation and uninstallation of every program leaves little footprints that gradually degrade performance. is this also true on the mac...I now really hate to install trial software on the dell because i don't really trust the uninstall feature.
