The site however mentions that the passengers need to show the credit card used to purchase the tickets upon check-in.
How can I circumvent this in order for me to buy tickets for them with my credit card since I won't be flying with them?
Easy. Book the trip using their credit card. (If they don't trust you enough to give you this information, they're welcome to use their friendly neighborhood travel agent.)
You just have to make sure you have the complete info: the CC number, the 3-digit code on the back that some websites ask for, plus the billing address associated with that CC. Can't guarantee it will work on expedia.fr, but I've done this many times on expedia.com as well as various airline websites.
