Harsh.
The e-mail advising of the change went out
one day before the hotel left the chain. The message from Starwood reportedly stated:
"As of 1st November 2008, the Hotel Villa Cipriani is no longer part of Starwood Hotels and Resorts WW and no longer participates in the Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) program. . . I have been advised that the new management will not accept your Starpoints for a Preferred (free) Night Award as your stay was originally confirmed."
If the OP's reservation was next week, would the wording and the approach, have been different? It wasn't
the last time this issue came up here.
I hold firm on my view (which moderators are entitled to have, by the way) that Starwood's handling of these situations leaves a great deal to be desired. You are, of course, entitled to a different opinion.
