There was a recent thread about this in regard to a quick in ba.com whereby if you went to book WTP and J was cheaper, it would automatically assign you J. All sorts of debates about this setting precedent, freelancers trying to get expenses paid etc etc.
Then there's also a line that needs to be drawn - you could 'save' your company money by taking a re-route onto another carrier. Perhaps QR J was £70 cheaper than BA WTP but what if you got held up in DOH, missing an important meeting and there's also that whole risk assessment thing.
I have little time for the people who make up these rules, it's just that had I been in that position I would have rather tried to say to the ticket desk "just upgrade me and let's forget the £70".
