OP should arm himself with doctor's orders and TSA regs. Remember to separate the meds and screen them separate from carry on and the 1 qt bag, and be prepared to firmly, and repeatably affirm the medical necessity. I believe he will be fine.
Is there a certain procedure for the medical bag?
1. Is it to be labeled on the outside, if so, what is the labeling?
2. Am I to tell the officer I have a medical bag, or just put it in the bin?
