Where does an elite who goes standby on an earlier flight go on the upgrade list once he/she clears the standby list?
Here was the scenario:
I'm EXP & was confirmed X on an 8p flight. Got to airport at 4p and requested standbye with TA for the 5p flight. TA puts me on standbye list, wouldn't confirm me and hands me an X class priority verification card with no seat assignment. (No clue why it was X).
After clearing security, the agent at the AC confirms me on the earlier flight since she says I'm no. 1 on list (after explaining that they don't normally do this (which is entirely not true)). Anyway, she issues me a Y BP. I ask to go on upg list and she says ok. I ask where I am and she says I'm 5th and she put a note in my record. No clue what It says. She tells me that there are others confirmed on the flt that are ahead of me.
Next thing I know the automated UPG system tells me that I'm upgraded. I go to gate and see 4 ppl on upg list, my name is absent. Then the monitor shows my name as 'cleared' for an upgrade (yes upgrade and not standbye list). I ask the GA who says he sees me as 5th on list and has no clue why the monitor shows otherwise.
Before departure the first 2 people on the upg list clear to first (one at gate and one once on brd). My name shows as no 1 on the cleared list and the former number 1 guy shows as number 2 on the cleared list.
I don't know for sure if those 2 ppl who cleared were exp or not, but I do know that the third guy (also ahed of me on the list) was not.
Should I have been ahead of all plts and golds or should a gld who was originally on the earlier flight have stayed ahead of me, an EXP who just got on the flight standby?
My assumption is that its irrelevant how/when I get on a flight, but once I'm holding a BP I've got 'equal' rights to that flight just as any other passenger and thus the original eite upgrade procedures should apply. Is that not the case?
