Hilton HQ sent me a US$ cheque but I'm in the UK - ideas?

OK, I had a few complaints about a stay at the Hilton Bracknell (UK) earlier in the year.

Hilton HQ pretty quickly agreed to refund the charges, and I kept expecting to see a line on my credit card bill to this effect but it never happened.

Yesterday, FedEx knocked on the door with an envelope and in there was a cheque (check) from Hilton, but drawn in US$. If I try to present this at my bank, i'll pay a fortune in charges for them processing it.

HHonors in the UK were at a loss as to what to do. I have mailed the contact at Hilton in the US but no response yet.

Any thoughts - what are the chances that another Hilton hotel would accept the cheque as part payment for a future stay? Could I just convert it into points?
