IME in similar situatons, little chance of a refund.
You can book flights for the earlier week then watch carefully on the dates of your original tix. for delays/canx on your orig flights, anything that makes your original itin problematic. If such occurs, call and force a refund.
Otherwise you're a victim of US hopelessly customer unfriendly policy, another "unique amongst the legacies to US" feature.
