Being in the tourism industry here in Florida people often have odd items or things that wont travel well they need/want to have on their trips. The advice given out is commonly just to have it shipped to the hotel - being sure to include your arrival dates and such on the box. Some places will have it waiting in your room is they offer that level of service.

Never heard of it being charged for, but water used to be free too.
