CO has this system at all three hubs now. Used it in EWR and it was a breeze. CO.com recommends you set your BB/smartphone's screen brightness to the highest setting to facilitate scanning. Perhaps he had this setting on a "power saving" mode and it wasn't at 100% brightness?

Just make sure you print your paper BP first, then have it sent to your BB. I'm not sure how AS's system works but on CO's system requesting the paper BP after the PDA results in a modified "bar code" (must include data on most recent BP issued) which will cause a scanning error. Also, if you change seat assignments or get upgraded after your initial OLCI you'll need to request a new one as well.
