Well, not to be a pain in the arse, but it then sounds like you are asking 'how does an employee claim partner benefits for a same-sex partner without outing themselves to their employer ?' Bit of a catch-22, no ?
In any case, good luck getting this sorted out. Sorry if we are all ragging you a bit over what must be a rather awkward situation. (I've been in relationships with closeted or partially closeted people before and it can be a huge strain on the relationship.)
