If they had the slightest degree of honesty, they would simply eliminate these bogus charges. Oil is now under $70, less than it was a year ago. Fuel is an essential part of the basic product, not an extra, and should always be part of the fare. They should join honest airlines like SkyEurope which have eliminated it.
The problem is airlines have bought oil futures at much higher prices than todays levels. I heard SouthWest which did well in the past has locked in at $110 a barrel.
