http://www.slickdeals.net. This is his/her quote regarding being a fat, broke kid!
I am a broke fat kid, so I need cheap food and I prefer it edible, so here is a list of some VERY GOOD restaurants that offer discounts if you eat at the bar certain times a day, they do this because in Massachusetts bars can not change the price of drinks during the week so there is no "happy hour", with these prices it is "happy hour" for this fat kid!
I mean a 1/2 lb cheesburger and a Plate of fries at McCormick and Schmicks for 1.95!! who needs to wait for restaurant week!!

Great Bay: Sand Dollar Menu
The Deal:
Dollar oysters and seafood dishes at the bar
The Time:
Monday-Friday (when there isn’t a Sox home game) from 5-6PM
The Place:
GREAT BAY
http://www.gbayrestaurant.com
500 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston, MA 02215
(617) 532-5300
The Food Monkey’s Take:
Located in Kenmore Square, Great Bay has the bar deal that I hit up the most. From 5-6 every weekday with no Red Sox home game, you can enjoy oysters and many other beautifully prepared seafood bites for just a buck a pop. I go there for the chilled Duxbury oysters which get delivered fresh twice daily.
What’s great about this menu is not only does everything taste great, but the presentation is beautiful as well. I also enjoy that while the ingredients stay the same, the form of each of the menu items changes based on who is working behind the raw bar so you get something a little different each time.
Also, Jonathan the bartender is one of the best around.
The Sand Dollar Menu Includes:
SPICY FISH TACO, with tropical fruit, avocado, cilantro
CHILLED DUXBURY OYSTER, with chive mignonette, lemon
LOBSTER & SHRIMP DUMPLING, with ginger, scallion, garlic
SALMON SASHIMI SLICE, with shiso sauce
CONE OF CALAMARI, with spicy aioli

The Food Monkey’s Take:
Masa’s Southwestern inspired food and a great Tequila selection bring me there as much as possible when I’m hanging out in the South End. Masa has a menu of 10 beautiful few-bite sized Tapas that rotates every three months. If you go there between 5 and 7pm any day of the week, you can get them at 5 bucks for a combo of ten Tapa at the bar, and they are just a dollar each all other times. My favorites are the chorizo, the queso fundito jalapeno empanada, and the tuna ceviche.
Their bar menu (subject to change) is as follows:
GRILLED CHORIZO, with Cranberry Chutney Salsa
ORANGE TAMARIND ONION RELISH, with Sweet Potato Chip
SHREDDED CHICKEN TAQUITO, with Chile Ancho Aioli

World Trade Center East, Two Seaport Lane, Boston, MA 02210

The Food Monkey’s Take:
Another one of my staple bar menus. Morton’s has a great all day bar menu with many selections, which reverts to 5 dollars per item during the Power Hour-Monday through Friday from 5-6:30PM and again from 9:30-11PM. The reason to go to Morton’s for the bar menu is the sliders. These beautiful mini-burgers, which are made out of prime beef–the top 3% of beef produced–literally melt in your mouth. Ordering them any way other than medium rare is a travesty. They also have amazing mini crab cakes and chicken goujonettes (fancy breaded chicken fingers). I love to go here and watch the Sox when the times line up properly.
Their Bar Menu includes:
MINIATURE PRIME CHEESEBURGER TRIO: More than half a pound of USDA prime-aged beef with cheddar cheese, tomato slices, lettuce and onion
FOUR PETITE FILET MIGNON SANDWICHES: Served with mustard mayonnaise sauce
CHICKEN GOUJONETTES: Crispy chicken strips served with mustard mayonnaise sauce
JUMBO LUMP CRAB, SPINACH & ARTICHOKE DIP: Served with toasted French bread croutons
BLUE CHEESE FRENCH FRIES
LUMP CRAB CAKES
OYSTERS ON THE HALF SHELL **
COLOSSAL SHRIMP COCKTAIL **
** Priced per piece.

The Place:
PHO REPUBLIQUE

The Food Monkey’s Take:
Pho Republique is the place that I go for fun cocktails with friends in the South End. They have a really wonderful bar deal where you can get Dim Sum for two dollars between Monday and Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30. What I like about Pho is that they can satisfy a fervent carnivore like me with their gooey delicious Candied Spare ribs but also have great vegetarian options, like the Veggie Rangoon that taste just as good.
For 2 dollars each you can enjoy:
STEAMED SHRIMP SHU MAI DUMPLINGS
CHICKEN AND GINGER POTSTICKERS
TOFU, EDAMAME, & BOK CHOY GYOZA DUMPLINGS
CURRY POTATO SAMOSAS
VEGGIE RANGOON WITH HERBED CREAM CHEESE

MCCORMICK AND SCHMICK’S COLUMBUS AVE
http://www.mccormickandschmicks.com
34 Columbus Ave., Boston, MA 02116
(617) 482-3999
The Food Monkey’s Take:
After I became an old pro at visiting their Faneuil Hall location, I decided to check out the McCormick and Schmick’s on Columbus Ave. In terms of sheer food volume their $1.95 cheeseburger is the best bang for your buck in the city. I also like the buffalo wings and spinach dip. The Columbus Ave. location has their bar menu available Sunday-Thursday 3:30-6:30PM and 9PM-Midnight, and when things are busier on Friday and Saturday it is 10PM-Midnight to fill in the late night hours. The bar on Columbus has a more of a dark, old-timey feel to it and has a very different vibe than the open to the outdoors bar in Faneuil Hall.
Remember, there is a $2.50 minimum beverage requirement, so get a coke and you’re fine, get one of their mixed drinks and you’re even better.
Their bar menu is as follows:
$1.95
HALF POUND CHEESEBURGER, with French Fries
SPINACH DIP, with Tri Color Tortilla Chips
BAY SHRIMP COCKTAIL, with Iceberg Lettuce and Cocktail Sauce
HUMMUS, with Toasted Garlic Bread
POLENTA FRIES, with Marinara Sauce
BAR FRENCH FRIES, with Garlic Butter, Parmesan Cheese
POTATO CROQUETTES, with Marinara Sauce
$3.95
BUFFALO CHICKEN WINGS, with Blue Cheese Dressing
BLACKENED CHICKEN QUESADILLA, with Pico De Gallo, Sour Cream

MEATLOAF SANDWICH, with Cheddar Cheese, French Fries
$4.95

The Food Monkey’s Take:
This was the first of the great Boston Bar Menu Deals I ever tried. In terms of sheer food volume their $1.95 cheeseburger is the best bang for your buck in the city. I also like the buffalo wings and spinach dip. The two locations have slightly different hours but the menus, for the most part, are the same. The Faneuil Hall location is open Monday-Friday from 3:30-6:30PM and again 9:30-10:30PM. I like the ambiance at the Faneuil Hall location the better because it has a great outdoor patio by the bar where you can still get the bar menu.
Remember, there is a $2.50 minimum beverage requirement, so get a coke and you’re fine, get one of their mixed drinks and you’re even better.

La Verdad: Dollar Taco Tuesdays
The Deal: Dollar tacos. Max 5 per person.
The Time:
Tuesdays 11am-1am when there is not a Red Sox home game
The Place:
LA VERDAD
http://www.laverdadtaqueria.com/
1 Lansdowne Street, Boston, MA
(617) 351-2580
The Food Monkey’s Take:
La Verdad is the closest I’ve found to true Southern Californian style tacos in Boston. If you go during Sox season, you’re going to get great fresh tacos and can peer into the back to see Mexican grandmas pressing fresh masa tortillas. If you go when the Sox aren’t in season and Lansdowne is a ghost town…you get the b-team. The good news is that once the House of Blues is up and running it should bring foot traffic to the area off-season and keep La Verdad excellent year-round.
If you come on Tuesdays when there is no Sox home game, you can enjoy selected tacos for a dollar all day long. Fortunately the selected tacos are some of my favorites, especially the Pastor Traditional.
There is a maximum of five tacos per person, but that is a really good sized meal.
The dollar taco menu includes:
POLLO PIBIL, Achiote and sour orange BBQ chicken with pickled red onions
CARNITAS, Confit pork, cilantro, onions, salsa verde, chicharrones.
PASTOR TRADITIONAL, “El Farolito” pork adobo, roasted pineapple, lime, cilantro, onion
While your there, snag an order of the corn. It’s worth every penny.
