It would probably be in their best interest to go back to issuing Charge Cards only.

If they want to issue credit cards, they should do it through banks (i.e. the BOFA and Citi cards), not directly. That way, if people default, the bank gets hit with it, not AXP.
Agreed 100% Aaron. Not to mention that AMEXs issued through other banks have better benefits and rewards too. THE CITI AMEX Platinum has similar features to the AMEX Platinum and with a lower annual fee (125 vs 450).
