Most important (I feel) is whether you have kids/grandkids that become eligeable as well. Having dual EU/US citizenship provides incredible opportunties (education/work/etc.). Getting it just for convenience sake might not be worth it for you - but to pass it along definitely is.
Do bear in mind that some E.U. countries don't permit citizenship to be carried indefinitely through descent. The U.K. and Germany only permit citizenship to be passed through 1 generation of non-native children. Those that permit citizenship to be passed indefinitely include Austria, France and Italy.
