Resident foreigners must carry an "Alien Registration Card" at all times. Most people call it a gaijin card. I never carry mine, however the J-cops have always been happy enough to see my driver's license. I'd reckon more than half the coppers here in the sticks wouldn't know the law as regards to gaijin cards anyway
