OK, my Samsung 245 dies last night. So here I sit working with my old 17in CRT

( Good thing I kept it in the closet for this situation).
So I'm in the market for a new LCD widescreen. I'm wide open to suggestions. I work in Photoshop and increasingly dabble in video. Presently not using the computer to watch DVDs etc.
CNET has decent reviews, but a shower of products. Can anyone offer comments/suggestsion about LCD widescreens to consider ( or not to consider)? Price range is open from $500 to $1600, size from 24 in to 30 in. I'm not looking to break the bank, but I'm also value/quality conscious as this is the 2nd LCD to die in 4 years on me. I'm not adverse to swimming upstream a bit if it enhances my workflow and user experience.
Amazingly, I'm resisting that primordial urge to simply run out and buy a replacement & instead research things. Also helps that I'm off to Sedona & Flagstaff in several days to hike and get some photography in & I don't feel like messing with the computer desk at the moment. It is a pain using the (ancient) CRT, but the wireless keyboard comes in handy as you turn towards the CRT's temporary niche.
Thanks in advance for suggestions.
