I would assume that there is at least one nervous flyer on EVERY flight carrying more than 10 people. You would think pilots should know this. Anyway, your excellent post covers everything quite well I would say.

Or it could be based on something like fear of CRASHING!!! All the "counselors" in the world couldn't have helped the many unfortunates who have been killed in plane crashes over the years.
I agree... take a Xanax or drink some alcohol and hope for the best.
