I know a couple of years ago (I want to say around 06) Amex changed their design on the charge cards to reflect the ones now shown on their website. I had a Rewards Plus Gold. The "American Express" lettering was white and smaller. It was the "modern" look. I actually liked it despite some people on here that didn't. It had the hologram magnetic stripe.
Well, I upgraded to Plat. about a year ago and got the newer Plat. design with the large white "American Express" lettering. I ordered my brother a Gold card on my account. When he got his, it looked almost fake. It had large "American Express" lettering in Gold to match the card. It looked like a very old early version from the 80s. It was totally different from the card I used to have.
Just wondering, is that because he's a secondary cardholder or did they change the designs again within the past year to make them look more like the gold cards from the early 80s?
His looks something like this:

American Express had "refreshed" their charge cards several times. The newest refreshed designs are exactly like the pictures you see in their websites and advertisements (large American Express lettering.) As mentioned the Platinum Card has large lettering, which is not reflected in their website or most of their ads.
They apparently have large number of "old design" cards in their inventory and issue those cards to some of their additional card holders or replacement cards.
