I agree with the Rainbow Room suggestion.

Dining and dancing in an elegant environment.

Skin Tavern on the Green, too touristy.

Some of the other hotels might have something very special - you might want to check the Peninsula, the Carlyle, or the St. Regis. The new Adour (Alain Ducasse) at the St. Regis is lovely.

However, with the Rainbow Room, you can't beat the view!
I was there for a private party last month and was pleasantly suprised with the food and service.
