I suspect that the A330 is simply temporarily off the route for routine off-season work. We're going out in December and I'm still showing an A330 for our trip.
Either the A330 or B767 are
far superior to the 757 product they fly PHL-LGW ( Unless you enjoy being cramped elbow-to-elbow in a Ryanair sort of cabin experience -- which is fine for a 2 hour intra-europe flight, but way out of bounds as a TA product ). It's not so much the plane as it is how Tempe elected to configure it. the leather seats look great, but the thrill is gone at about the 2 hour mark as the lack of leg and arm room sinks in. The hard part is the anger/angst which builds as you get ready for the return flight knowing what is ahead of you.
The only downside to the 67 in coach is that there is no in-seat IFE, they use monitors and viewing selection is limited. The seating configuration is 2-3-2 and the seats themselves managable ( they've UGed coach seats to leather). The A330 has individual IFE in all seats, still a very useful thing for a TA flight.
Although the LGW flight arrives a couple of hours earlier ( and we find LGW a busy, but cozy airport to navigate and an easy ride to central London ) we've switched our flying to LHR simply to avoid those horrid 757s.
