That said, when they said they had no suites, that may not have been a simple lie. It's possible they had the one suite open (the one you ended up sleeping in), but they had another guest who had reserved that room for the night but had not yet arrived.
It also appears to be clear that they did not have a suite available for 5 consecutive nights. So if they indeed thought of it as an upgrade for the whole reservation, there really was not a suite available from that perspective.
