I looked into having my Ph.D. recognized as a Doktorgrad in Germany -- not so easy. I got about 6 pages of rules and regulations. I have a colleague, though, who went through the process. Apparently getting a Ph.D. from Princeton is sufficiently good to be recognized as a Doktorgrad.

He is now (officially) Herr Prof. Dr. X, Ph.D.
