In the first year, you get a certificate good for a level 1-4 hotel (expires after 6 months) and thereafter you get one for a level 1-5 hotel. You can top up your points by purchasing from internet retailers through the Marriott Rewards mall.
I had a Citi Thank You Points Mastercard but got rid of it after my account was compromised and Citi didn't do enough to make me feel like it wouldn't happen again. (Lots of stories on the internet about people having repeated problems with their Citi credit cards.)
The hotel certificate is a nice perk, but don't really like the 1 MR pt/$1 on non-Marriott purchases, but if you stay at Marriott properties the card is a definite must-have.
Otherwise, would probably recommend some combination of Citi Professional MC (3% for restaurants), Chase Freedom Visa (3% for many different categories) and Fidelity Visa (1.5% on everything) for non-Amex spending.
