I have always felt better purchasing a ticket when I've been able to select a seat. However, there is a chance that I might have to select a flight where there are no seats available in Y. I have to "wait for an seat to be assigned" when I check in if I go through with the purchase. Anyone have any suggestions.

I suspect once upgrades go though, hopefully I'll be on the list since it's a Q and V fare I'm eyeing, more seats will become available. I just wanted to know how others have dealt with this before arriving at the airport and being told "sorry, we over sold the flight"...
