That price is decent...for AA.

Two suggestions if you want to use money, not miles:

1) Keep your eyes open for cheaper fares on other airlines. Taca, CO and DL have been good at occasionally dropping their Central America fuel surcharge which brings the fare down a bit.

2) Find a consolidator that specializes in Guatemala flights. There must be a ton of these shops in NYC. These consolidators have negotiated rates that are often much lower than the published fares you are seeing. While I have never gone this route, I do understand that these fares might not always earn miles or allow upgrades -- if that matters to you.
