I can only speak for myself, but the concept of "different treatment" is a myth. All customers regardless of where they are seated are afforded a high level of courtesy, professionalism, and respect.
On the current flight manifest, there is no distinction between a full revenue ticket (J) and a confirmed upgrade (I). The only notation we receive is an "ML" & numeric code which indicates a gate upgrade or a non-revenue traveller. This is documented in the event of a meal shortage, however I would like to point out that this has never happened in my experience on an International flight.
Every effort is made to ensure that status customers (SE, E, Gold) are afforded meal choice. From previous threads, it is apparent that this is a highly valued benefit.
