FWIW, I'm booking the same route in mid-November, but my flight times are fairly rigid, at least in one direction. I'm finding fares between 500 and 700 dollars, not a steal by any rights.

If I was more flexible, I can find 1-stops through DEN or LAX for around $300 on the same days or +/- 1 day.

I think there's a sale going on with rather limited availability in some low-ball fare bucket. Once the sale fares are gone, prices in the rest of Y are still pretty high. My trip is Monday-Thursday night and everything from the red-eye Thursday and all day Friday is sold out in the low-cost buckets. As expected, there's no consultants flying Tues-Thurs and over the weekend, so availability seems much better there.
