If you are unable to get an exit row in Y on a 744, I have found row 36 (36D is good) to be one of the better alternatives. Seatguru.com says the bulkhead is too close and the big movie screen is right in front of you (both these are true), but it fails to mention the greatest advantage of this seat...no seat back in your face!!
