What's the point in being allocated kids seats as T-72

Does the BA computer always choose ridiculous seats for families with kids at T-72.

Flying CW on a 3 class 777, we have been allocated 4 seats - kids (aged 4 and 9) are seated together and me and wife sitting on seperate rows across the isle. The cabin is pretty full but according to Expertflyer there was at least one better option that at least sat one of us with the kids. I guess there will be human intervention before checkin to make sure kids are not sitting away from us.

On the outbound trip the computer allocated absurd seats also that needed changed prior to T-24.

If my experience is anything to go by the check in people must always need to intervene.

This must cause them extra effort - plus leaving the customer hanging with just 'hope' that appropriate seating will be sorted out.

I know the seating assigment algorithm must be complex but it looks like it could be improved somewhat!!
