We actually have purchased a couple of items at art auctions, but never, ever because we thought we were getting a huge discount on some undiscovered artist. We found a couple of pieces for a few hundred dollars that we thought would look nice in the living room. If these truly were great masters that were selling at enormous discounts to what they are worth, then they wouldn't be on a cruise ship.

Agreed - same here. I've purchased a few from a few cruises and from eBay, all from the same artist, because I like the style. (It makes me smile when I see them
) I never shell out uber-bucks for them - but knowing how much it costs to frame a piece, I look for the "must-sell" pieces where framing is already included.
