I stayed at the LAX Hilton for 2 weeks in August. Booked a towers room, and was upgraded to a large room; the size a one bedroom suite. There wasn't a wall, which meant that there was a large gap between the bed and the couch on the other side of the room. The room itself was a bit tired looking.
I had access to a nice continental breakfast in the mornings in the Lounge. Yogurt, fruit, pastries, and hard boiled eggs. In the evenings, there were snacks such as cheese, spring rolls, wings, etc. Soft drinks are free in the lounge bar, but there's a charge for alcohol. The Lounge is closed on the weekends, so you'll have to go to the front desk and they'll give you a continental breakfast voucher ($5? more to upgrade to the extensive hot buffet) and another voucher for a free drink and appetizer at the bar.
The gym downstairs has a good selection of weight machines, treadmills (8?), and stairsteppers (7?). However, all the treadmills needed maintenance. The motors were erratic and most treadmills were off-balance.
The restaurant in the mornings has atrocious service. Most mornings I was greeted with "I'm busy. Stand to the side". Once I got seated, service was non-existent. Granted, it's extremely busy, but one waiter routinely ignored me (as in never stopped by my table except to drop off the check) and other tables of two, and focused on the larger tables. It was one of the rare situations where I never left a tip. Anyway, the whole restaurant operation seemed to be extremely understaffed.
I'll be there again in a few weeks. Only because the hotel is offering a triple points promotion.
