Regarding Asian carriers doing a better job of keeping the lavs clean -- I have read here that Asian carriers are also known for keeping the cabin uncomfortably warm. Could it be that they know that they have to keep the lavs clean in that warm environment, because they know the smell would spread more quickly?
It's because Asians, and especially Japanese are obsessed with toilets and cleanliness in general.
