Also your PP should have been applied to the folio as a cash payment towards the total at the appropriate rate. You could have printed out the exchange rate from Marriott's website.
IMHO should not had been too difficult to explain to the clerk.
If you are a trainee, if you have never seen, nor has anyone told you about, things like PP's or "stored value VISA cards", you are not going to take the customer's word as to what it is, much less how to process it. If we were wrong, or even worse, scamming her, how does the trainee explain to her management the hundreds of dollars that would have been processed incorrectly and are now "missing" from the system?
The issue here is not whether guests can train desk clerks. It is that neither the guests, nor the trainee, should have been put in a position where it was needed.
IMHO, that is not difficult to understand.
