Right now we are focusing a bit on the Salta area. Perhaps hiring a guide and driving north to pumamarca (sp?) and also staying a couple of nights at a nice Estancia. However, it seems the area is very large and the trip would entail quite a number of hours in a car. I'm not sure I really want that and I know my kids likely do not. Also, generally, is there a lot to see and do in that area? We don't hike much but like beautiful vistas, towns, restaurants and some time in a pool (I think Salta is warm enough in April for that, but I'm not sure).

Alternatively, we are thinking of Bariloche or Patagonia. I have been to Bariloche years ago but I think we would prefer it in the summer time, or in the winter. As for Patagonia, is April very late in the season? I imagine we would need winter-type clothes? Also, are the drives there huge also?

We have not been to Iguazu, and I know most everyone loves it but I think that, after having seen the falls for an hour or two, the family would want to head to the next destination. Thus, I don't think we want to fly there for the few hours of spectacular scenery.

Thank you for your suggestions.
I think the Salta region would be an excellent choice for you and your family. And there really is enough to do close by without dealing with long drives. Here is a good link to a web site that should provide you with tons of good information on the area.

For the adults there are also some good vineyards nearby that maybe Alex could point you to
