US programmes have a totally different dynamic to European ones, as the US market is very different to the European one. As such, it is rather difficult to make sensible comparisons between them. Ditto for Asian programmes. I have not done the calculations, but I suspect that you would need even more BD segs to make it to *A G with OZ.
So we're agreed, the whole system is totally screwy

It seems, in many cases, loyalty to one airline is probably better rewarded on another airlines FFP (excluding the US market). No matter BD/BA/AF or whoever, I still think anyone who does 100+ sectors a year on a single airline deserves proper recognition from said airline.
