Without buying another ticket, calling the MVP desk was great advice. You could see if they might reroute you thru ORD or DFW (or even LAX) which show some availability or onto a codeshare:
No airline is going to re-route due to oversale before the fact. The fact that they allowed the oversale is indicitave that they expect a certain number of no-shows. They will always tell you to go to the airport and wait it out.
